Why You Should Invest In Yourself

Be all for self-love not self-sabotage. How you work on yourself today will impact how you will be tomorrow. If you want to continually grow as a person then act on it, you can’t expect changes to happen in your life if you don’t invest in yourself for the future.

I’ll break this one down with a scenario. You have set yourself a goal or objective but since we don’t live in a picture perfect world, plan B might need to be implemented. It’s reality that it may not always be achieved however if you fail, learn from it. Find a plan B, learn from your mistakes. 

If you hit a roadblock, see it as a challenge, and and think about ways to overcome it. All these setbacks, are curve balls that all help you become better.

Hence why, it’ll never be a waste of time to do anything that’s for yourself, you will always receive something out of it, whether it’s a sense of achievement or a lesson learnt. 

Self improvement

You can always be better. That’s one of the things that I live by. I have an insatiable mindset at times, and that can be my downfall, as I have a constant urge to continue to push on rather than stop to enjoy the moment. However, I am working on it, something that is part of my self improvement. 

In my opinion, you can never stop learning. The world doesn’t stop, and continues to change, so there’s always something to pick up and add to your armoury. Whether that’s enhancing your knowledge or new skills make it a priority to continue to better yourself. Don’t get left behind or stuck in a rut, even if that means change and stepping out of your comfort zone.

Also, don’t underestimate the status of where you work. For example working in the kitchen at McDonalds. It’s not the best example to be honest, but I use it a lot, as it’s simple and relatable.

Don’t focus on the low grade ‘status’ of working at a fast food chain. There’s a reason why McDonalds has been at the top of the fast food chain for so long. They have processes in place that have been the foundation to their success. You learn skills such as communication, efficiency and teamwork, which all can be applied to several facets in life. 

A healthier and stronger mind

It’s not about being completely selfish, it’s about ensuring you’re prioritising yourself to ensure you’re healthy and happy. 

Love yourself first. 

Mental health has always been and always will be important. It’s become highlighted a lot more in media over the last few years, where more prominent people such as athletes and celebrities have voiced their thoughts on it. As a result, it has made it more acceptable to showcase your flaws and weaknesses. 

Think about athletes, they can have all the skills in the world, but it’s the mental strength that separates the world class athletes from the great ones. Having the composure to produce the right play for that situation, rather than making a rash or overly emotional decision on a play that fizzles out to nothing. I’m sure many of you have heard that before. For those you follow football, Cristiano Ronaldo is a prime example, he constantly works on himself, and his mental strength is second to none. He’s been at the pinnacle of the sport for 15 years, and that’s because, in his mind, he always wants to be the best.

Some of us, including myself, focus on several aspects such as family, friends and work to the point where we neglect our own well-being. No matter how busy you become, ensure you organise time for yourself to exercise the mind. When you have a healthy and strong mentality, you’ll be a much happier person. 

Because no one else truly does

Yes your family, your friends, your partner do care about you. But only you yourself truly know what’s going on and what you want to do.

You ultimately hold the power to create possibilities in your life, and it should be your responsibility, not someone else’s. 

If you have dependent on others, you’ll be playing a waiting game, and ultimately limit yourself. This is because they are most likely focusing on themselves, and will only give so much. So, be proactive, and not reactive. You’re in control of where you want to go in life, no one else. 

Improves current and future relationships

You can’t love another person, if you don’t love yourself. It’s cliche, but true. 

Focusing on yourself will generate positivity in your outlook in life, as you grow as a person. Hence, you’ll seek positive relationships that provide value and support. You don’t want to be around constant negativity, where you get dragged down. 

When you’ve made that healthy investment on yourself, you can help others grow, whilst still being able to focus on growth too. Once you’re with someone else, the time you have for yourself diminishes. Not to say that you should rule out spending time on your own once a relationship comes to fruition, but it’s now a partnership where you will designate time to be with one another. If you’re not investing in yourself whilst being in a relationship, your partner will inevitably outgrow you as well.
