Style Essentials For Men

The men in modern society have become more conscious of their style than they ever were, don’t you think? I believe some men out there actually care more about their appearance than some women. Having a lust for shopping and wearing the latest trends to be fashionable isn’t purely a feminine interest. A stylish man can still look very masculine. But regardless of where you are with your style, you need to nail the basics first. Here are my top 10 recommended style essentials for the dudes.

White Dress Shirt

Every man needs this in their wardrobe. I have a few, and you should too. It’s a clean and timeless piece that is worn well with a suit or some chinos. And because it’s white, it’s a great layering item for any type of blazer, knit jumper or cardigan.

T-shirt in Black & White

You should already own plenty of these. It’s a no brainer. If you want to spice it up, have a variety of cuts. Examples include longline, curved hem and scoop neck.

Hoodie

It’s something you can quickly throw on before you head out if you need it. You can even sleep in it. Literally, your bestie during the colder months. Remember, it’s a hoodie, so ensure you have a little room in it, you want to be comfortable, don’t buy one that fits like a compression top.

Navy Chinos

Go back 10 years and every guy was either wearing a suit pant or a pair of jeans. The chino slides in between both, where it’s the most comfortable and versatile option. T-shirt or button up shirt, sneakers or dress shoes - they can be dressed up or down.

Black Distressed Jeans

Again, I’m sure most of you already own a pair of these. It’s a staple if you want to nail the casual or streetwear look. Whether it’s a pair of sneakers or boots, they are perfect. If you want to play it safe, opt for a pair that has minimal distressing over one that looks like you put them through a wood cutter/paper shredder. The latter can look daggy.

Joggers

Gone are the days that these style of bottoms were restricted to the home and gym. Get yourself a well fitted pair that can be worn from the gym to lunch with the boys. As guys, we don’t have the wealth of options like our female counterparts when it comes to bottoms, so joggers are a great alternative to the chino and denim.

Brown dress shoes

You can’t be living with just sneakers and slides these days. Every man should have at least a quality pair of leather dress shoes for those more formal occasions. Whether that be for a wedding or the missus wants to have a fancy date night with you, you can’t alwaysbe rocking some Nikes. Also, I mentioned brown, because it allows for more versatility than your traditional black pair.

White leather sneakers

This would be a timeless acquisition to anyone’s wardrobe, not just for men. Probably the most versatile piece of footwear you can own, as it goes with pretty much everything due to its simple and clean aesthetics. Common projects are my recommendation but for the budget conscious there are many other alternatives which still do the job such as the Vans Old Skool (which I own), Adidas Continental 80 and Reebok Club C 85.

Suit

Just like my point about the brown dress shoes, as a man in modern society, no matter what age you are, you need at least one suit for those more formal occasions. If you currently don’t own one, I would recommend a classic plain navy or charcoal suit. A well fitted suit can turn any guy from drab to fab.

Timepiece

We all have phones that tell the time, but a timepiece just rounds off your outfit. For me, I feel naked when I don’t wear one, maybe that’s just me. It’s an accessory that gives that finishing polish and showcases that you know your style.
